Prize Cards and Elimination
Why do Prize cards work as "life" instead of like in the official game?
In the official 1v1 game, you take Prize cards when you Knock Out your opponent's Pokémon. In a battle royale, that would encourage kill stealing: sniping a weakened Pokémon that another player worked to damage, just to grab the reward. In Totem Format nobody profits directly from a Knock Out — the defeated player takes their own Prize cards into their hand (a small comeback boost) and simply gets closer to elimination.
Who takes Prize cards when a Pokémon is Knocked Out by Poison or another effect?
The same as always: the controller of the Knocked Out Pokémon takes Prize cards from their own pile, no matter what caused the Knock Out (attack, Ability, Special Condition, or self-damage).
How do cards that compare Prize counts work, like "if you have more Prize cards remaining than your opponent"?
"Your opponent" in multiplayer always means one opponent: the one you are targeting with the attack, or one you choose when the effect resolves. You never compare against the whole table. Keep in mind that in this format the player who is winning is the one with more Prize cards left — so these cards work best against the table leader. That is intentional: it gives the losing players tools to gang up on whoever is ahead.
Is Iono good or bad for me?
¿Iono es buena o mala para mí?
Iono makes each player draw cards equal to their own remaining Prize cards. Players who have taken a beating have fewer Prizes left, so they draw fewer cards. Unlike the official game, Iono punishes the players who are already behind — time it carefully, and expect it to make you no friends.
What happens if I must take more Prize cards than I have left?
You take all your remaining Prize cards and you are eliminated, exactly as if you had taken your last one.
Can I run out of cards in my deck?
¿Puedo quedarme sin cartas en el mazo?
Yes. If you cannot draw a card at the beginning of your turn because your deck is empty, you are eliminated — unless a card effect says otherwise.
Can my Totem attack the same turn it enters play?
Yes. The Totem enters play as it is — it does not evolve, so Evolution Sickness does not apply. If it has the Energy its attack requires, it can attack immediately.
Can the Totem be evolved or devolved?
¿Puede el Tótem evolucionar o involucionar?
No, never. The Totem has no pre-Evolutions and cannot be evolved into anything else. Cards that devolve Pokémon have no effect on it.
No, nunca.
What happens to my Totem when it is Knocked Out?
You take your own Prize cards according to its Rule Box, and its Invocation Cost permanently increases by 1 (every Knock Out counts, including the first). Then you choose: return it to the Totem Zone, or send it to the discard pile. In the discard pile it behaves like a normal card: effects like Super Rod can return it to your hand or deck, and a card effect can put it into play from there — without evolving it.
An effect wants to send my Totem to the Lost Zone / my deck / my hand. What happens?
Un efecto quiere enviar mi Tótem a la Zona Perdida / mi mazo / mi mano. ¿Qué pasa?
You choose: it goes where the effect says, or it goes to the Totem Zone instead — a bit like Commander. Outside the Totem Zone it is treated as a normal card: it can even be put into play from your hand or your deck if a card effect says so, without evolving it.
Can I put Special Energy on my Totem in the Totem Zone?
Yes, but while in the Totem Zone it counts as 1 Colorless Energy toward the Invocation Cost and is completely inert. Effects that trigger "when you attach this card" never resolve, because the attachment happened outside of play. Once the Totem enters play, the Energy works normally again — for example, Double Turbo Energy provides 2 Colorless from that moment on.
Can opponents interact with my Totem or its Energy while it is in the Totem Zone?
No. While in the Totem Zone, the Totem is not in play: it cannot be targeted, damaged, or affected by anything, and its attached Energy cannot be discarded or moved by card effects.
What Stage does my VMAX, VSTAR, BREAK, or Mega Totem use on the cost table?
VMAX and VSTAR count as Stage 1 (they evolve from a Basic Pokémon V). BREAK Pokémon count as one Stage above the Pokémon they evolve from — a BREAK of a Stage 2 uses the Stage 3 column. M Pokémon-EX and Primal Pokémon-EX work the same way, counting from the base Pokémon's normal Stage: Venusaur is a Stage 2, so M Venusaur-EX uses the Stage 3 column. Pokémon LV.X work the same way, counting one Stage above their base Pokémon. Modern Mega Pokémon ex are the exception: they simply use their printed Stage. Pokémon LEGEND count as Basic, and Pokémon V-UNION count as Stage 2.
Can my Totem be a V-UNION or a LEGEND card?
Yes. All of their cards start together in the Totem Zone and they are invoked as a single Pokémon. Pokémon LEGEND count as Basic (and Ho-Oh / Lugia LEGEND give 1 Prize card, the dual ones 2); Pokémon V-UNION count as Stage 2 and give 3 Prize cards. A V-UNION in the discard pile can be assembled with its printed rule once per game per player. The total is always 100 cards: a LEGEND Totem means a 98-card deck, a V-UNION Totem a 96-card deck. See Section 4 of the Rules.

Which cards are legal?
¿Qué cartas son legales?
Every Pokémon TCG card ever printed, from the original Base Set to the newest expansion, except the cards on the Banlist.
It's a singleton format — can I play several ACE SPEC cards, since each is a different card?
No. Official global limits still apply: maximum 1 ACE SPEC in total and maximum 1 Radiant Pokémon in total per deck. Your Totem counts toward these limits: if your Totem is a Radiant Pokémon, you cannot include another Radiant in your 99.
My Pokémon's attack costs include Colorless symbols. Does that break my type identity?
No. Colorless symbols in attack costs are generic — they can be paid with any Energy and never count as a "required type". Only named Energy types (Fire, Water, Psychic…) count for identity. The Colorless restriction for Retreat Cost 0 Totems only affects Colorless-type Pokémon and Special Energy that provides Colorless.
How do dual-type Pokémon work with type identity?
If your Totem is dual-type, both of its types are part of your identity. If a dual-type Pokémon is in your deck, both of its types must be allowed by your Totem's identity.
Do opponents draw extra cards when I mulligan?
No. Mulligans are free for everyone (reveal your hand, shuffle it back, draw 7). With 100-card singleton decks, mulligans are more common than in the official game, so the official compensation draw is removed. Remember: you can only mulligan if you have no Basic Pokémon in hand — if you have at least one, you must keep that hand, as in the original TCG.
Multiplayer and Timing
A card says "your opponent". Who is that in a 4-player game?
Una carta dice "tu rival". ¿Quién es en una partida de 4 jugadores?
One opponent, chosen by the player resolving the effect (or the opponent already being targeted, for attacks). Cards that say "each player" or "all players" affect the whole table. See Rules Section 9 for the full scope rules.
When exactly can I play Items outside my turn?
As many as you want, during any player's Action Phase: after their draw is complete and before they announce their Attack Phase (the active player must announce it, and everyone gets one last chance to play Items before the attack is declared). Nobody can play Items during the draw, the attack, or Pokémon Checkup — so there is no reacting to a declared attack. Items work like Magic instants: they can be answered with other Items, forming a stack that resolves in reverse order (the last Item played resolves first); if several players want to act at once, priority follows turn order starting from the active player. You can also play an Item for another player (gifted use): they make all its choices and pay its costs, and they cannot refuse. See Rules Section 10.
Can I attack any player?
¿Puedo atacar a cualquier jugador?
Yes. On your turn you declare an attack against one opponent of your choice. There is no forced rotation — politics, threat assessment, and deals decide who gets hit.
Are deals binding?
¿Son vinculantes los pactos?
No. Negotiation is encouraged, betrayal is legal.
What happens to an eliminated player's cards?
All of their in-play cards (including their Stadium, if it was theirs) are discarded without triggering any "when discarded" effects, and the player is removed from the game entirely — no effect considers them anymore.
